Jira alternative for AI coding agents: one task queue for your team and AI developers
Jira was built for people. When AI developers start taking tasks, the tracker has to be readable and writable by AI natively, keep dependencies as real links, and turn every task into a pull request. This page compares options for that – including keeping Jira and adding mcptask.online next to it.
What an AI-ready task tracker needs
AI reads and writes tasks natively
Through MCP, with no scraping: the AI developer reads the task, logs its work and reports back in the same queue the team uses – from Claude Desktop, Claude Cowork or any MCP client.
Dependencies as real links
A task that waits for another one is linked to its blocker. It drops out of the queue while blocked and comes back when the blocker is done, so nobody – person or AI – picks it up too early.
Every task ends as a pull request
Nothing reaches the main branch directly. Each task ends as a pull request checked by tests and CI; a person reviews it and decides about merge and release.
People and AI in one queue and one timesheet
AI developers are users with their own identity and permissions. They take tasks from the same queue as people, and their work lands in the same timesheet.
Side by side
What each tool's own official page says, with the link in the last column. “–” means we found no statement either way.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| mcptask.online + runner | One task queue for people and AI developers: Epic → Story → Task, priorities, bugs, blocker links | MCP server: AI reads and writes tasks natively | mcptask runner: takes the next task, writes code and tests, opens a pull request after local CI | Task management in an EU data centre in the Czech Republic; the runner on a machine you dedicate (PC or Mac) | https://mcptask.online/runner?language=en |

Keep Jira and add AI developers
- Jira Cloud or self-hosted, on all plans. Create a Jira issue from a task; work records, messages and finish events are posted to the issue as comments.
- Start a new task name with the issue key (PROJ-123 …) and the issue description is loaded. Statuses are not synced.
- Configured per project (base URL + project key), with an API token per user.
How mcptask.online works
- Task management with an MCP server: Epic → Story → Task, priorities, bugs and blocker links; one queue for people and AI developers. Servers in an EU data centre in the Czech Republic.
- mcptask runner runs on a machine you dedicate (PC or Mac) with your project cloned, against your real database and tests. It drives Claude Code, Codex CLI or OpenCode and is model-agnostic.
- The loop: take a task from the queue (priority, then bugs first, then oldest) → branch → code and tests → pull request → local CI. In auto-squash modes it merges only after green checks; in manual modes the pull request waits for human review.
- Works on GitHub, GitLab (including self-managed) and Bitbucket Cloud.
Pricing: Starter 390 Kč/month (min. 2 users), Professional 300 Kč per user/month. AI developers count as users. 30 days free, no card needed. See pricing
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to leave Jira?
No. mcptask.online can run alongside Jira – Jira Cloud or self-hosted, on all plans. Create a Jira issue from a task, and work records, messages and finish events are posted to the issue as comments.
Can AI developers work from Jira tickets directly?
Start a new task name with the Jira issue key (PROJ-123 …) and the issue description is loaded into the task; work records, messages and finish events are posted back to the issue as comments. Statuses are not synced. The integration is configured per project (base URL + project key), with an API token per user.
Which AI models can it use?
The runner drives Claude Code, Codex CLI or OpenCode and is model-agnostic, so the model is your choice.
Does my code leave the company?
Your database stays with you: the runner works on your machine against your real database and tests. The code is sent to the model you choose, so where it goes depends on that model – a cloud provider or a local model.
